2. At top of page on the blue strip click “shelters and rescues.”

3. Scroll down a little and click on “Search Shelters And Rescue Groups Near You.”

4. Then, there is a box at top that says “Search For Animal Welfare Groups.”

a. In “Location,” put in a zip code or a city of your choice.

Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption advise:

            Go to our website at www.cara-nc.org and click on adoption info tab. Then click adoption application and look at the questions we ask the applicant. When someone is looking to adopt from you, ask these same kinds of question to your animal’s potential adopter.

            Once you find the right home for your animal, and then please tell them about our 20 Fix Program. The adopters can go to our website   and click on the tab that says “Resources” and click on the “ 20 Fix Program .” If the adopters do not think they will qualify for this program then tell them about the Spay/Neuter Clinic of the Sandhills. The phone number for this clinic is 910-692-3499 and their website is www.companionanimalclinic.org .

            Spay/Neuter Clinic of the Sandhills prices as of September 2015 are:

                        Dogs:               $65.00

                        Female Cats:   $50.00

                        Male Cats:       $35.00

 

Call your local Animal Control:

You also have the option in calling your local (county) animal control and bringing the pet to your local animal control shelter. With animal control, animal control will keep the animal for three days (if a stray) to make sure that it is not someone’s pet or potentially no time at all (the pet can be put to sleep immediately) if you are surrendering a pet you are the owner of. Putting the animal in animal control does not exactly sign the death warrant for the animal as different counties have a network of animal shelters they contact to try to get their “adoptable animals” out and into those shelters.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department: (919) 718-4560 -- this is who you call to report a stray animal who needs picked up. There is no guarantee they will pick up any stray animal. CARA does not pick up animals.

 

For additional help: Call all the vets in your area and ask if they can scan a pet you have found in hopes they have a microchip or could offer additional help. None of the vets below will TAKE any pets, so please do not ask them to do so. Below are Sanford Area Veterinarians:
